The Oak Island Tourism Society met at 421 Middle River Road May 11, 2006.
Chairman Ken Petrie called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.
There were six directors present.
The secretary read the minutes of the last meeting. Carol Nauss made a motion to accept the minutes as presented. The motion was carried with all in favor.
Danny Hennigar presented an up date on the Pirates’ Brannigan to be held August 12, 2006. This will be social event for O.I.T.S .members and general public.
Catherine MacPherson will create a poster for the event.
Carol Nauss made a motion to go forward with preparations for the Pirates’ Brannigan , the costs to be covered by the society. The motion was second by Glenda Redden. The motion passed with all in favor.
To date we have sold 32 of the new medallions.
The current membership numbers are 65 persons.
Danny Hennigar presented a new fund raising venture for the society’s consideration.
A spoof named “Da Oak Island Code” has been co-authored by Danny Hennigar and D”Arcy O’Connor. The compilation of the book has been done by David VanVugt. Art work has been supplied by Ann Elsdon
The proceeds; once costs are covered for printing the book; will be turned over to the Oak Island Tourism Society.
Carol Nauss made a motion to fund one-quarter (1/4) of the costs to print 200 of “Da Oak Island Code” books pending a reasonable estimate. The motion was second by Catherine MacPherson. The motion passed with all in favor.
Catherine MacPherson made a motion to have a letter of agreement between Darcy O’Connor, Danny Hennigar, David Van Vugt and prepared. The motion was second by Glenda Redden. The motion passed with all in favor.
Lettering for the signs to advertise Explore Oak Island 2006 will be donated by Guinard Signs of New Brunswick.
The chairman called for a motion to adjourn at 9 p.m. The motion was put forward by Danny Hennigar.
